Energy, Mining & Construction Industry Safety

The Energy, Mining and Construction Industry Safety (EMCIS) Program is a part of the Colorado School of Mines' (CSM) Mining Engineering Department in Golden, CO. This program offers Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification classes on a regular basis, including MSHA Part 48 New Miner Training and Annual Refreshers. There are also many special interest courses available, such as mine rescue training, underground search and rescue training and our new tunnel safety course.

Our overall goal is to serve as a training resource to the Western United States' mining industry. Our specific objectives are:

  • To reduce injuries and illnesses in mining operations through a focused and comprehensive training program
  • Educates mine workers on how to best protect themselves from risks and hazards in the mining environment
  • Expand the number of qualified mine safety and health trainers in the United States.
