This is a 4-day course and includes both classroom training and field activities conducted at the Edgar Experimental Mine. Upon completion of all course requirements, students will have met Federal requirements for new miner underground training, except for the 8-hour mine specific training that must be completed at the mine where you will be working. Students will receive an MSHA Form 5000-23 certifying that they have completed 32 hours of training for underground mines.

Target Audience: Individuals

• Interested in working in the mining industry;

• With mining experience in other countries;

• With US mining experience but who have not previously met Part 48 training requirements.

• Self Rescue Devices

• Mine Gases

• Ventilation

• Refuge Chambers

• Underground Ground Control

This course also includes one half day at the Edgar Experimental Mine. Students learn about the PPE needed to enter an underground mine, how to scale unstable roof conditions, and how to measure air flow rates and quantities.

Duration: 32 hours (4 8-hour days) - Attendees are required to complete an additional 8-hours of training at the underground mine where they will be working.
