This course is designed for experienced surface miners, who have a current MSHA Form 5000-23 for surface mines, and who desire to complete MSHA Part 48 training requirements for underground mines. This two-day class consists of 1.5 days of classroom training, and ½ day of training at the Edgar Mine where underground topics are presented. Students will receive an MSHA Form 5000-23 certifying that they have completed specific topics required for underground mines. Students will still be required to complete another 8 hours of training at a mine site, as well as task training.

Target Audience: Individuals with US mining experience who have met Part 48 training requirements for surface mines and who now want to obtain a Form 5000-23 for underground mines.

This course also includes one half day at the Edgar Experimental Mine. Students learn about the PPE needed to enter an underground mine, how to scale unstable roof conditions, and how to measure air flow rates and quantities.

Duration: 16 hours (2 8-hour days)
