Introduction to Industrial Safety and Health Program Systems
In 2005, the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) published ANSI/AIHA Z10-2005 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This standard is a voluntary consensus standard and is the first OHSMS published in the United States. The purpose of this standard is to provide organizations an effective tool that leads to continual improvement of occupational health and safety performance by minimizing workplace risks and reducing the occurrence and cost of occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities. The information in this document was utilized to develop safety and health management system training applicable to the mining industry. The training document includes lesson plans, an expanded outline of the material presented, PowerPoint® slides with trainer notes, and several handouts. The lesson plans include objectives, description of learning activities, materials needed for the learning activities and evaluation methods. Examples of handouts include a risk assessment matrix, description of the SMART Model for writing achievable objectives, and an audit plan.Post Mortem Evaluations of Recent Mine Disasters.
